Yesterday, Dave and I went for a hike at Baxter’s Harbour Falls. We skipped most of the trail as we had some trouble with the trail map and the ground was so icy and treacherous we decided it would be safer to park close to the falls and just walk the beach. I’m not entirely certain that where we parked wasn’t actually the driveway of an AirBnB, but nobody was there and three other cars also came and parked next to us. We hope to go back in the summer for a different experience!
We had the very good luck to have a day that was below freezing while being quite sunny and not too windy, and while low tide was at 1:08 pm. We arrived at noon and spent about two hours scrambling over icy rocks and taking a lot of photos. The best are below!

Anybody thinking about doing this hike in winter should absolutely wear crampons or grip-ons. We wore grip-ons, with rubber tops and metal bottoms that made our way much less treacherous. Additionally, either park along Baxter’s Harbour Rd or use a vehicle with 4-wheel drive. The road down (Paddy’s Beach Rd, no mention of the falls) is steep and icy. The view is worth the trouble!
