This is only my second year nominating for the Hugos (I always felt that it was a conflict of interest to nominate as the owner of an active small press before, even though AFAIK there’s no rule against it, but URB’s been dormant for like 5 years at this point). Anybody can nominate eligible works who paid Glasgow (last year’s) or Seattle (this year’s) Worldcons the USD$50 fee by Jan 31. There’s a crowdsourced and no doubt incomplete google doc of eligible works here.
I won’t list here everything I am nominating (I won’t finalize right away anyway since I’m still reading things) but these will definitely be included:
- Best Novel: Moon of the Turning Snow, Waubgeshig Rice (William Morrow) and Those Beyond the Wall, Micaiah Johnson (Del Rey)
- Best Novella: We Speak Through The Mountain, Premee Mohamed (ECW Press)
- Best Short Story: “Why Don’t We Just Kill the Kid In the Omelas Hole,” Isabel J. Kim (Clarkesworld)
- Best Poem: “Let’s Pretend It’s a Bird,” Roger Dutcher (NewMyths.com) (Weirdly, to me, this is off down the bottom of the ballot away from all the other writing categories.)
Nominations close March 14th.
