Scifaikuest has just informed me that I will be the featured poet for their August 2025 print edition. They’ve accepted “Interplanetary War” (a cinquain), “Junkyard” (my first Fibonacci), and 21 scifaiku/scifisenryu.
This is particularly wonderful for me because I am only really just now getting back to submitting my work to magazines. Upper Rubber Boot, and then the pandemic (since I worked for Vanderbilt’s hospital), kept me too busy for anything except the occasional collaboration and the endless novel which I finally finished in May. I wrote the first draft of another novel May-October, made possible by my voluntary unemployment and recent move back to Canada. I started submitting short pieces at the beginning of November, and was astonished to discover an entire ms. of trunk poetry, never submitted anywhere, that I wrote mostly during NaPoWriMo 2011 or 2012 (going from memory – I can’t pinpoint the year because when I transferred my files to this laptop, Microsoft helpfully updated all the file dates to 2022). So it’s a real shot in the arm to have 23 pieces picked up and to be the featured poet of such a great project, and for their anniversary issue too!
* Note I’m not in any of the issues in the covers above, I’m just showing off their fantastic art work.
